Testing the Spirits

When the bible talks about testing the spirits, God is speaking about two specific spirits. These spirits are known as “motivations or motivators.” The Holy Spirit guides leads and comforts and is the Will of God. The Will of God is the motivation behind the Word of God. Satan also has a spirit that goes against God’s Holy Spirit or Holy Motivation and Will. Since the Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all Truth. It directs us into the Way, the Truth and the Life. Satan’s spirit leads and guides men to destruction. This spirit is called the spirit of error. An error something that is not correct or a leading in a way that is not correct. It is a deviation from the Truth. The synonyms for error are misunderstanding, transgression, and falsehood. It is also known as sin and misconception. To misconceive something is to get the wrong impression or create a false image. This spirit of error is also called the spirit of antichrist because the people who are ruled by it deny Christ through believing distortions.

We are to test which spirit prophets and teachers are ruled by. It is your responsibility to know your bible well enough to test your leaders whether they are from God or not. You will know whether or not they are from God if they live in the ‘nature of Christ.’ That means they will not be doing or teaching anything that Christ did not teach. You are to test them to see if they are ruled by God’s Holy Spirit or by the antichrist spirit. If you don’t you are gullible and they are not only making a mockery out of you, but also of God as well. If you don’t test them, you fail your duty in walking in the way of a true disciple. There are only two spirits to test. You are to overcome the spirits of antichrist. However how can you overcome them, if you don’t know God’s Word for yourself? To overcome them is to defeat the arguments that come against the knowledge of God. In other words, you are to defeat any distortions that create a false image of who Christ is and the purposes of why He came to this earth. Not only that, but in your testing you should be examining what their motives are.

These motives are what are called ‘spirits.’ To examine the spirits is to test the motives. Are what they saying actually the Truth or is it a truth mixed with a lie? God’s Holy Spirit will always lead you into all Truth. If you have the Truth, you will be able to identify the lie. You will also be able to identify the misconceptions that cause you to not be able to see Christ’s image. God calls this spiritual blindness. Because even though you have the Truth, it’s mixed with a lie causing God’s image to be distorted. In turn then since you see a distorted image of Christ, you will actually think its the way God actually looks. However it is not. The Word of God is Jesus the Christ. Jesus is the Father’s Words in human form. God sent Him to this earth so that we could see Him who is in heaven. Therefore anything Jesus did is pure and free from corruption. He is your template. Nevermind everything else when you are first testing the spirit of God and the spirit of Antichrist. Jesus life is the way that leads you into all Truth so that you can have eternal life.

The Spirit of God works through His prophets and teachers. He speaks to them directly in the night and in dreams and visions, so that you can know the motivations behind God’s words. The spirit of antichrist works through self appointed prophets and teachers; those He did not call. They lead you away from God and His Word and motivations. To deny Christ is not to say “I don’t know God or I don’t believe in God.” To deny Christ is to not give Him what is rightfully His. What is that you ask? It is His own word and how we take care of it. If we misuse it and misapply it, we are denying not only Christ but also His sacrifice He made on the cross. Thus we sin against the Holy Spirit because we don’t test the spirits or motivations to see if they are from God.

These things are so important because you need the wisdom to discern who is who. Otherwise, you will be calling good an evil thing and evil thing good.

1 John 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit [speaking through a self-proclaimed prophet]; instead test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world. By this you know and recognize the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ has [actually] come in the flesh [as a man] is from God [God is its source]; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus [acknowledging that He has come in the flesh, but would deny any of the Son’s true nature] is not of God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and is now already in the world. Little children (believers, dear ones), you are of God and you belong to Him and have [already] overcome them [the agents of the antichrist]; because He who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world [of sinful mankind]. They [who teach twisted doctrine] are of the world and belong to it; therefore they speak from the [viewpoint of the] world [with its immoral freedom and baseless theories—demanding compliance with their opinions and ridiculing the values of the upright], and the [gullible one of the] world listens closely and pays attention to them. We [who teach God’s word] are from God [energized by the Holy Spirit], and whoever knows God [through personal experience] listens to us [and has a deeper understanding of Him]. Whoever is not of God does not listen to us. By this, we know [without any doubt] the spirit of truth [motivated by God] and the spirit of error [motivated by Satan].
