Whenever someone cannot trust God it is because they are not able to understand who He is. Sure they know where He resides and the elementary things of being in heaven and with us. But many even though they know Who He is, they don’t understand the way His Word works.
When Jesus said that He is the Way, He was actually saying that He is the Way that His Father works. Since He is the WORDS of God in flesh form, He was also saying that HE IS THE WAY that the WORD actually works.
If we have difficulty trusting God, it is because we are having difficulty in understanding what He is saying and the Way He is saying whatever scripture is given.
It has been ingrained in people to believe ourselves and that we can do whatever our mind tells us to do. However believing in ourselves goes against scripture. We are to believe in God more than we are to believe in ourselves. If He is truly Lord in our lives, we place all our trust in Him so that we can live the Way He wishes for us to live.
If we believe in ourselves we build a trust in our own way of thinking. When we do that we inadvertantly create a hidden doubt about God. When something goes wrong with our way of thinking, we go to God and expect Him to think the way that we do. WE expect Him to fix things according to our suggestions. Therefore when we end up going to God to trust Him, we end up coming face to face with ourselves instead of coming face to face with God.
Unfulfilled expectations create doubts within us. We take those doubts and find it difficult to trust God because we unexpectedly made a god out of ourselves. We end up seeing Him through our idea of who we are rather than Who He really is. When that happens we find it hard to trust God, because we ourselves have failed. In doing so we are actually trusting ourselves rather than God. When we pray we are actually praying to ourselves if doubt is involved. That is why our prayers don’t get answered. We are actually praying to ourselves and calling Him God and expecting Him to answer. However the bible says
James 1:6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
Why does He say like a wave of the sea? Because waves of the sea are doctrines of men or ‘the ways of God according to men and not according to the WORD or according to the truth of Christ. These ways of man produce a misunderstanding of God and that misunderstanding produces doubt. Human ways produce doubt, while God’s ways produce confidence in The Word, The Spirit and the Father in heaven. If you are unstable, you are building yourself on the ideas of man rather than on the Rock; the Word of God.
Doubt is the evidence of the lack of understanding of Who God really is. Doubt is another word for unbelief. When the father of the boy with the evil spirit asked Jesus to help his unbelief, he was asking Him to help them understand Him so that there would be no room for doubt. That is because IF we doubt God then we are really putting more faith in ourselves. And if we put more faith in ourselves, we are unfaithful to Christ and His Word. When we are unfaithful we have created separation between us and God and placed ourselves in the place of God. In this place harmony with God no longer exists. If there is no harmony with God, we exist in state of being unfaithful. And if we are unfaithful we should expect nothing from God.
